Binocular NVG for Law Enforcement: Real Depth Perception

MH-1: dual MX-10160 tubes, 460g magnesium-titanium housing, IPD 51-78mm. True binocular NVG for patrol and tactical teams.

MH-1 binocular NVG for law enforcement

Law enforcement NVG operations split into two categories: the patrol officer who needs eyes in the dark and the tactical operator who needs to move, engage, and make split-second decisions. Both benefit from binocular NVG, but for different reasons. The patrol officer gains situational awareness without the monocular's one-eye fatigue on extended shifts. The tactical operator gains genuine stereoscopic depth perception: the ability to judge distances correctly when clearing structures, crossing obstacles, or assessing threats.

The MH-1 provides true binocular NVG with two independent MX-10160 tubes in a 460g magnesium-titanium housing. At that weight and with an IPD range of 51-78mm, it fits a wide range of officers without equipment modifications. The MX-10160 tube format gives a larger photocathode area than monocular-format tubes: more signal capture at the same light level, higher achievable FOM at equivalent tube tier.

Monocular vs. Binocular NVG in Law Enforcement: The Depth Perception Problem

A monocular NVG (PVS-14, MH-14) provides night vision for one eye. The brain doesn't get stereo input; it gets one amplified image and one eye looking at ambient conditions or a blocked lens. The visual cortex can adapt, but the stereoscopic depth cue; the parallax difference between two eyes; is gone. Judging distances at night on monocular NVG is a learned skill that degrades with fatigue and stress.

Binocular NVG (MH-1, SENTINEL) gives both eyes an independent, amplified image. Stereoscopic depth perception is restored. The officer can judge distances, step over obstacles, clear thresholds, and assess target standoff with the same accuracy as in daylight. In tactical environments where distance misjudgment has consequences, this is not an upgrade; it is a material performance difference.

True Binocular Depth

Two independent MX-10160 tubes provide genuine stereoscopic vision; both eyes see an amplified night image. Distance judgment is accurate, not estimated.

460g Magnesium-Titanium

Lightweight housing material means less neck fatigue on extended operations. Structural strength is maintained; magnesium-titanium alloy is impact-resistant at this weight class.

IPD 51-78mm Range

Wide interpupillary distance adjustment accommodates nearly the full adult range. No per-officer equipment modifications required for team issue.

MX-10160 Tube Format

Larger photocathode area than MX-11769 monocular tubes. More photons captured at equivalent light level; higher signal at lower ambient illumination.

White Phosphor Option

Available with white phosphor tubes for improved contrast detection in complex scenes; faces, equipment, and targets are more legible in gray-scale than green-tinted output.

FOM-Specified Tubes

Specify your FOM target; Adams Industries sources within that range and documents delivered performance. You know what you're getting before deployment.
